Alcoholics will alienate and push away non-alcoholics in order to continue their path of drinking. Quitting drinking and recovery is part of the cycle of alcoholism, not the end. A recovered alcoholic should be viewed no differently than the nascent teenage alcoholic or any person in any other stage of the cycle.
